Technical Project Manager

Caplin Systems has been around for 25 years and markets web based trading technology: software components, front end solutions, and professional services. Our customers include four of the top five global banks (by FX volume) as well as leading regional and national financial institutions.

We currently have a vacancy for a Technical PM. This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual wanting to bring their skills to an organisation at the leading edge of web-based trading technology and with clients including some of the world’s biggest financial institutions. The role will be based in our London office in the City on a permanent basis with global travel as required. Reporting to the Head of Professional Services. 

The role

This role will be a combination of unique responsibilities to work with our clients, partners, and internal stakeholders to provide day-to-day oversight for key accounts / programmes.

You’ll be involved from inception through to support and optimisation - ensuring engagements are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest level of customer satisfaction. You will be responsible for driving alignment and ensuring the overall scope, cost, and business and technical requirements are understood by all, and you’ll foster collaborative working environments to get the best out of your teams.

To be considered you are likely to have come from a development or testing background but will not be hands on any more. You need to be the kind of project manager who understands exactly what they’re delivering and strives to add value to the client and the team. 

Key tasks include:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the Project team, internal teams and clients, ensuring clear communication and ownership throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Regularly report on project scope, changes, costs, resources, dependencies, risks and issues into Caplin’s programme management function.
  • Lead teams delivering high quality, high performance trading solutions using technologies including C/Java/Kotlin/JavaScript/React
  • Develop and manage delivery timelines and scheduling expectations.
  • Remove impediments for the team allowing them to focus on delivery.
  • Facilitate team ceremonies (stand ups, refinement, planning, retros)
  • Build and maintain information radiators (e.g. sprint boards and release backlogs on physical or in software tools).
  • Provide direction and clarity on back-end product offering to guide development
  • Create and retain customer engagement throughout the whole project/engagement lifecycle

You should apply if:

You have:

  • A proven experience as a Technical Project manager or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies (e.g. Agile, Scrum)
  • Excellent customer facing skills and the ability to create rapport with all levels of project stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex topics clearly and concisely
  • Good knowledge of the SDLC having started your career as a Software Developer or Software Tester.
  • Experience of working with user stories and/or use cases 

and ideally…

  • Track record of delivering front-office trading projects in Financial Markets/Investment Banking.
  • FX domain knowledge
  • Experience of front to back office stack for complex FX web trading systems
